Life’s Grape + Giveaway
November 6, 2009About a week ago, I asked Kolette if she would add some green grapes to the grocery list. She usually just picks up red grapes and I was jonesin’ for some green ones. She must have gone to the store in the last few days, because yesterday morning, lo and behold, I found my green grapes waiting in the bowl on the counter while Ko was away working her keister off at Jim’s Gym (for more on her escapades there, check out her blog here–or for one of my favorite Jim’s Gym posts click here).
Anyway, as I worked my way through the grapes, it wasn’t long until I noticed that these were not your ordinary, average, everyday, grapes. It quickly became evident that these were some sort of “Super Grapes,” or that possibly someone had slipped some steroids into this batch of Vitis Vinifera (I guess you could say they might have been juicing).
And then, it was there—the largest grape Ko or I had ever seen. The other ones were big, but this one was second to none. It barely seemed like a grape at all. We took it around and compared it to other items around the house, and laughed and joked about what we saw. We even took pictures so you can see for yourself.

It was only a few minutes, and it was just some silly grapes, but it brought some joy to our day. But, that’s how it goes. Often, it’s the little, crazy things that bring us the happiness we need to make it through the day. That said, it falls upon us to find those ridiculous things that can lighten your day, and take some of the pressure off.
So, wanting to hear other little quirky things you find to bring joy into your lives, I’m going to giveaway. It’s an autographed DVD. In order to qualify, you need to leave some silly, little thing you’ve used to bring some joy to your life—maybe even take it upon yourself to find something to get you giggling in the next few days.
Either way, leave your comment and you’ll be entered in the giveaway.
And, in honor of the grape, Kolette’s agreed to make the giveaway a little more “juicy” by adding some of her great scrapbooking swag for you or your spouse.
Now comes your chance. Let ‘em fly. The more ideas that get posted the more resources we’ll all have to live lives with a little more gladness, the more ways we’ll find to make life just grape.

To qualify, comments must be posted by 10:00pm PST Sunday, November 8

The grape next to a penny

My Hubby was reading a magazine and I was watching the Biggest Loser and they were cooking in the White House Kitchen when all of a sudden my hubby reachs over and grabs the remote. He rewound it and then showed me what caught his attention THE PRESIDENTS ESPRESSO MACHINE!!! I guess at this point I should mention that my DH takes coffee very seriously and even roast his own. He paused the analyzed the frozen image and filled me in the type and make of the machine then we digressed into a 10 minute conversation about what type of beans they use? Wh is the presidential barista? Is it an appointed position? and on and on
Thank you for stopping me and encouraging me to record our silly moment!
Funny, embarassing . So at my house we like to eat. A LOT.
I have very fond memories of my step son with chickenleg bones in his mouth, you know like walrus tusks, and my husband starts singing, and we all join in…I am the walrus , coocoo cachoo…
Yeah…fun with food…
We have a 2 year old, so we like to make up silly songs for her. I doubt she even understands most of them but she seems to like it anyway. Truthfully, they rarely make sense to us, possibly because we always force them to rhyme. It’s not easy to rhyme some words!
This is my joy/silliness: http://saraamuso.blogspot.com/2009/11/mollie-brings-us-joy.html
I love music. Singing or dancing brings great joy and release. Except for those who have to listen to me! BTW – you have an adorable child!!
Our 15 month old will point to a blanket we keep on the side of our couch and say, ‘please’. We then know what she wants:) We throw it over her head and it’s like a switch that tuns on! She goes crazy, waddling everywhere, giggling and wanting more. So simple, so hilarious.
I blog hop when I need a smile, laugh, or snort. The blogosphere is full of happy, inspiring, and humorous stories.
I was studying a new Pilates workout to teach. One of the moves was to sit on the floor, cross your legs, roll back and then come back up to sitting. For some reason, maybe the fact I am not coordinated and am 55, but I would wobble sideways and go back down on my way up. I looked like a Weeble, one of those kiddy toys people. I demonstrated this for my boss at the gym and also my husband, laughing yet just thinking about it. By the way, I left it out of the class I taught.
Our little three year old is a constant source of joy in our family of eight!
Her latest fun is taking out her baking suit (her apron and hat) and telling anyone who will listen….”I have my baking suit on…let’s bake!”
The older kids joke that maybe they need baking suits too!
Thanks Jason and Kolette for being such an inspiration!

Our 3 year old granddaughter’s favourite pastime is dressing up as a Princess. Of course, she was a princess for helloween.
Olivia lined up all the pieces – dress, crown, wand, etc. She then told her mommy that she was a beautiful princess but she would be more beautiful if she had “bumps”.
Hmm, my daughter is laughing thinking she thought she knew what the ‘bumps’ were, but she said “what do you mean, bumps?”
Olivia said “You know, those things at the bottom of shoes to make me taller!”
Our kids are a constant source of inspiration and comic relief!
The story that always makes a smile is the one of our son playing first-grade basketball. As all of the players were heading down the court in the middle of a very heated game, my son busted out his famous “cart-wheel” move. The refree took him aside and said “Buddy, we’re playing basketball, not gymnastics”. My husband hid his head in shame as all of the parents secretly giggled inside. My son took it all in stride and at the end of the game came up to us and commented “Whew, that was hard work!” I think my 93-year old grandma almost wet her pants she was laughing so hard!
My nephew is a very polite 3 year old. His family has a really big german shepherd and the two of them stand “nose to nose”. Raina decided to lick my nephew in the face and Jesse, not enjoying it, kept saying to her “no thank you Raina, no thank you”.
Way back when I was in Navy bootcamp, I had the honor of being the person to go get the mail. This meant I could walk every morning BY MYSELF (which is rare and very cherished) and I seemed to always see butterflies along the path. I believe it was God giving me a little bit of joy in a tough situation. Now when I see butterflies they always bring me great joy! thanks for having a giveaway
Jason – I didn’t know you had a DVD out. This is awesome. I am not a follower, by nature, except in the single area of being a follower of the Lord, Jesus Christ. However, ever since I came acros your story via a class of Kolette’s I have become a follower of sorts; just to capture the teachings that seem to flow so freely from you and your wife. I’m going to add your DVD to my son’s Christmas gifts. He’s 19 now and struggling with himself. He should be fulfilling other important commitments, but the world has ahold of him at present. I’m hoping your faith and your experiences will inspire and encourage him as they have me. I’m reminded often of him as a little boy when I see pictures of your Cole (my son is Colton
). Seeing his joyful smiles in the photos reminds me of a little boy years ago. Joy isn’t seasonal – it is a choice. Chosing, finding, feeling and living joy has certainly been taught to me well by the Halls. Thank you.
BTW – we had some of those joyous hugemongous grape a while back…wondering all the while if we should really be enjoying them so much. They had to be ‘on something!’
When I really need a pick me-up, I go to You Tube and watch some hysterical out-takes. There is one montage of moments from the Martha Stewart show that is so funny. I have seen it 100 times or more and every single time it makes me laugh until I have tears pouring down my face. It’s great and it always makes me laugh, even when I am down.
Pulling funny faces with my kids, always brightens the day. We just keep pulling silly faces til we can’t pull them anymore because we are giggling too much!!
